This New Ghibli-Inspired Animated Masterpiece Will Break Your Heart With Its Sincerity
This is a modernized Romeo and Juliet story that will leave you with a feeling of melancholy.
They say love is stronger than death, but sometimes death conquers all. Usman Riaz's animated film The Glassworker from Mano Studios can break your heart like clumsy hands break a masterpiece.
An animation about love, creativity and loss, in which every frame is drawn by hand, will take you back to your first bright feelings and the best works of Studio Ghibli.
What Is The Glassworker About?
As a boy, Vincent lost his mother, but he inherited her zest for life and her talent. Despite her weak lungs, she devoted herself to the art of glassblowing, creating masterpieces from sand and fire.
Widowed, her husband, Thomas, raised his son alone, instilling in him not only a love of glass but also an alienation from society. Nevertheless, Vincent's childlike spontaneity brought him together with the cheerful violinist Alliz, who became interested in the products of the glassblower's shop.
Their friendship quickly grew into serious feelings, just as the soulless glass blown by a master became a work of art.
The Glassworker Doesn't Offer Plot Twists, But Gives Something More Important
It is probably difficult to create something completely new when everything has already been said. But sometimes it is so nice to return to something familiar, warm and touching.
The Glassworker does not paint an unimaginable fantasy story and does not offer an emotional rollercoaster ride from the complex relationships of the main characters.
Usman Riaz reaches out to the viewer and walks through the bright feelings of first love for a partner and childhood affection for parents. He gently reminds us that the most important thing in this life is to create, love and preserve the world within and around us.
The Glassworker Main Characters Are Reminiscent of Romeo & Juliet
As is often the case, love could not come easily to the characters. Alliz, the daughter of an influential colonel who actively participates in military operations, cannot be with the son of a deserter.
Like Romeo and Juliet, they continue to reach out to each other. Were it not for the war, their families could have found a common language, for Alliz's father loves art, and it was he who instilled in his daughter a passion for music. In this way, he is very similar to Thomas, who taught his son the art of glassblowing.
The Glassworker Is a Quiet Animated Masterpiece
The Glassworker won't impress the viewer with unusual plot twists, but you don't expect it to. The animated movie brings back memories of the first sincere feelings and leaves a slight melancholy in the soul.
It invites you to think about what is really important, and that is worth a lot.
