A light-hearted movie that shows we are not so different after all.

A Little Something Extra is the directorial debut of actor Artus and an unexpected hit at the French box office. In 2024, the movie was seen by more than 10 million people in its home country.

The film grossed $74 million at the box office, surpassing Deadpool & Wolverine as well as the second installments of Inside Out and Moana in France.

A Little Something Extra is a contender for the Cesar in the Best Debut category, but otherwise both festivals and awards bypassed the film. However, the movie won the love of the viewers and this is the best award for a comedy.

What Is A Little Something Extra About?

Lucien and his son Paulo rob a bank and try to flee the scene, but their car is towed. The two see a bus full of handicapped people on their way to a summer camp in the mountains.

The robbers impersonate the deceased Sylvain and his companion Orpi. Alice, a naive social worker, welcomes the newcomers. Sylvain makes new friends and even finds love, while Orpi looks for a way to get as far away as possible with the loot.

A Little Something Extra Is a Touching and Light-Hearted Comedy

The phenomenal box office success of A Little Something Extra was hard to predict – there are no big stars, and the supporting roles are played by non-professional actors with special needs.

On the other hand, it is a very relatable and touching movie in which the characters directly express their doubts and worries.

A Little Something Extra Is Full of Bright Characters

A Little Something Extra has enough charismatic and eccentric characters. Baptiste idolizes Cristiano Ronaldo and constantly invites his friends to play football. Ludovic regularly tells people the truth to their faces.

Alexandre adores Nicolas Sarkozy and constantly quotes the former French president. Boris wears bright women's clothes. The authors manage not only to show a group of people with special needs, but also to give each of them a voice and to clearly show the individuality of the characters.

A Little Something Extra Is a Brilliant Comedy about People with Special Needs

There are many touching episodes in the movie, but the creators don't forget the jokes either. Fragile Marie is regularly hit on the head with a ball, Ludovic curses in public places, and Sylvain spends a long time putting words together to form sentences.

The plot is based on a meeting between robbers and visually, hearing impaired or autistic people. Yet these seemingly disparate groups have much in common.
