Think Man of Tomorrow Ties Directly to Peacemaker Season 2’s Finale? Not So Fast
Peacemaker Season 2’s finale may have lit up HBO Max, but don’t expect a straight line into Man of Tomorrow—the next DC chapter is far more standalone than fan theories suggest.
If you were expecting Peacemaker season 2 to hand the baton directly to James Gunn's next Superman movie, pump the brakes. Gunn says the two are linked, but not in the one-to-one way some fans were hoping.
Where Peacemaker season 2 leaves things
The second chapter of DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television's Peacemaker wrapped earlier this month, with the finale dropping on HBO Max. John Cena is back as Christopher Smith, and the core crew returns alongside him:
- Danielle Brooks - Leota Adebayo
- Freddie Stroma - Adrian Chase/Vigilante
- Jennifer Holland - Emilia Harcourt
- Steve Agee - John Economos
The season ends by clearly teeing up future moves, including the emergence of Salvation and Checkmate. Gunn had previously called season 2 a prequel to his next Superman movie, which naturally got people connecting dots.
So how connected is 'Man of Tomorrow'?
In a new chat on Go Read Some Comics with Jenna, Gunn kept story specifics under wraps but laid out the vibe: yes, there are threads, but 'Man of Tomorrow' is not a direct continuation of every beat from the Peacemaker finale.
"I don't know what people have guessed, but Man of Tomorrow is really - it's very, very connected to Peacemaker - but it's also its own thing. I mean, it has its own story that's separate from this."
Translation: expect overlap, not a checklist. If you are waiting for every Salvation and Checkmate tease to pay off immediately, that might not happen here.
What 'Man of Tomorrow' actually is
Gunn is already at work on the follow-up to his Superman movie, now titled 'Man of Tomorrow' and set for 2027. David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are back as Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. And yes, the Brainiac chatter is still just that - heavily speculated, not confirmed.
When to see it
'Man of Tomorrow' flies into theaters on July 9, 2027, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
