Robyn Carr's novel series the show is based on offers ample entertainment.

When Virgin River debuted on Netflix in 2019, few could have predicted that the show would become one of the streaming service's flagship dramas. However, it rapidly attracted a loyal fan base and got renewed for numerous additional seasons. As of September 2023, Virgin River has had five seasons and has already been renewed for a sixth.

Regrettably, season 6 of the beloved Netflix drama, centered around Melinda Monroe's new life in the small eponymous town, will have to wait until the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes get resolved. In the meantime, fans who have already binged season 5, released just two weeks ago, might find it worthwhile to immerse themselves in Robyn Carr's Virgin River book series.

Here's a list of every novel and short story set in the Virgin River universe published so far:

Prolific Author

The author behind Virgin River has had a prolific career in literature and an even more intriguing life. She has written four book series: Virgin River, Grace Valley, Thunder Point, and Sullivan's Crossing – nearly thirty standalone novels, starting with Chelynne (1980) and her most recent one being A Family Affair (2022). She has also co-authored several omnibuses with other authors.

Carr's biography echoes many aspects she incorporated into Virgin River. Robyn studied nursing in college, but unlike Mel Monroe, she never really had an opportunity to practice her craft consistently as her husband was in the military, and they were constantly on the move. This fact will likely resonate with every Virgin River fan familiar with Mel's romance with ex-Marine Jack Sheridan. Notably, Robyn Carr had a difficult pregnancy, an experience she later depicted in the Virgin River series.

Essentially, what we're trying to say here is that Robyn Carr is a mighty intriguing character, and her novels are definitely worth checking out, even if you're not really into the Netflix adaptation of her Virgin River series.

Will you consider reading the books from the list?
