The Writers Behind Violent Night Uncork Boozy Horror-Comedy Dead Drunk

Violent Night and Sonic trilogy writers Patrick Casey and Josh Miller are brewing Dead Drunk, a booze-fueled horror comedy now in the works.
The Sonic guys are taking a detour. Patrick Casey and Josh Miller, the duo behind every Sonic the Hedgehog movie so far and the Violent Night films, have a new gig that is neither blue nor jolly: a horror comedy called Dead Drunk. And yes, the title is the premise.
The elevator pitch
Dead Drunk follows a newly divorced empty-nester who gets talked into a wine tasting getaway by her chaos-loving best friend. The trip goes south fast when they end up stuck at a vineyard with a nasty secret. Survival becomes a high-wire act with a very specific rule: staying buzzed might be the only way to make it to sunrise. Hangovers are a luxury for the living.
Who is making it
- Title: Dead Drunk
- Genre: Horror comedy
- Writers: Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy, Violent Night, Violent Night 2)
- Producers: Graham King and Hayley King for GK Films (father-daughter producing partners)
- Casey and Miller are also on board as executive producers
- Logline essentials: newly divorced lead, free-spirited best friend, a vineyard with a terrifying secret, and a survival twist where staying drunk is literally the game plan
Why this one pops
Casey and Miller have carved out a lane where big, goofy concepts meet actual genre chops. Killer Santa worked. Now they are turning the tasting room into a bloodbath with a hook so on-the-nose it might actually be genius: drink or die. It is a clean, crowd-ready premise that sounds like a midnight movie waiting to happen.
"This film combines three of our greatest passions... horror, comedy and drinking. We're very excited to work with Graham, Hayley and the entire GK team."
Graham King calls the project a fun ride and leans on the duo's track record, while Hayley King says the concept sold them immediately and promises something funny, scary, and inventive enough that you will want to remember it the next morning. That last part is doing some heavy lifting, given the title.
Bottom line: if you like your horror messy and your jokes mean, Dead Drunk sounds like a strong pour. I am curious to see who they cast as the reluctant wine warrior and her human hurricane of a best friend. Stay tuned.
