People hated the main character for a reason.

NBC's The Blacklist managed to become one of the best crime procedurals out there thanks to James Spader's great performance as criminal mastermind Red Reddington, who decided to help the authorities put his former friends and accomplices behind bars.

But while Reddingron was loved by the fandom from the start, the series' second main character Liz Keen proved to be a rather annoying presence, especially in the last few seasons of The Blacklist. Here's why.

While Liz seemed like a perfectly reasonable, if a little annoying, character early on, her relationship with Red in the later seasons began to bother viewers quite a bit. Many fans argued that Liz's nonsensical behavior towards Red ruined the whole dynamic of the show.

'The most hair-ripping aspect of her character is that she constantly does a 180. Red does something, she hates him. She finds out that Red did that something for her benefit or if Red's in trouble, now she's suddenly on good terms with him. I get that circumstances can change your views on a person, but Liz did it frequently. In pretty much every season,' one fan explained their point on Reddit.

A lot of viewers were vexed about Liz constantly doubting her loyalty to Red. The two of them were supposed to make the show interesting and keep the story going, but instead, their dynamic made The Blacklist feel like a soap opera at times.

Because of that, people were sure it was only a matter of time before the writers decided to get rid of the character — and they were right, as Liz was eventually killed off in Season 8.

However, some fans still feel that instead of eradicating the character completely, the writers could try and give her more attention, making Liz and Red's relationship seem like a real one. And when one of the main characters was gone, the whole show soon fell into total disarray, with all the storylines, even the ones that were working, quickly falling to pieces.

It's a great shame that the questionable writing decisions turned The Blacklist into a total joke by the end of its ten-year run.
