The Witcher Spoilers: Here's What's Going to Happen to Yennefer After S3
We're hoping the writers will do justice to Sapkowski's Yen.
Season 3 of Netflix's The Witcher has left viewers on a cliffhanger, wondering what's in store for the once again separated Geralt, Ciri, and Yen. For all its flaws and controversy, the third chapter proved to be far more faithful to Andrzej Sapkowski's source material and attempted to fix some of the characters and their stories, forcing fans to root for them even more.
Most notably, this applies to Yennefer of Vengerberg. Though hardcore fans have some complaints about the character's changed storyline and sometimes unsuccessful costume choices, most people see Netflix's Yen as an intriguing, vibrant, and likable character. That's why viewers are especially worried about her fate in the upcoming Season 4.
Please note that the following paragraphs contain major spoilers for those who haven't read Sapkowski's original novels.
In the books, starting with Baptism of Fire, Yennefer escapes from the Lodge of Sorceresses, which has its own plans for Ciri. She heads to the Skellige Archipelago, where Vilgefortz is rumored to be hiding. However, she is captured and tortured by Vilgefortz, who wants her to reveal Ciri's whereabouts.
Ciri discovers that Yen, her adoptive mother, is being held captive by the rogue mage, but she is also captured by Vilgefortz. Eventually, Geralt finds and rescues them both.
After these events, Geralt goes to Rivia with Jaskier, and Ciri and Yen are brought to the Lodge so that the mages can decide what to do with the girl upon whom the fate of the world depends. Fortunately, they allow Ciri to decide her fate for herself, and both are teleported to Rivia — only to face terrible news.
The Witcher's dwarf friends are attacked by angry peasants, and while trying to stop them, Geralt is mortally wounded. He is protected by Yen, who is also wounded in the battle. Ciri meets the unicorn Ihuarraquax, who helps her heal her foster parents and send their bodies by boat to mysterious lands, which seem to be beyond this world.
These lands are apparently Avalon, where King Arthur met his death, so the end of Yen and Geralt's story can be interpreted as their happy reunion in the afterlife. However, it's worth noting that the CD Project Red games approached the 'finale' differently, allowing Yen and Geralt to return from their temporary refuge to the Continent.
It's possible that the Netflix producers will come up with their own version for the characters' fate, and it's not yet clear how many seasons will be required to finish their epic story.
