The Witcher Finally Fixed Season 2 Mess: 5 Things Season 3 Done Right
Fortunately, the producers realized and corrected their past mistakes.
The Witcher Season 2 is considered a failure by most of the show's fandom due to a large number of questionable artistic choices, deviations from Andrzej Sapkowski's book source, and generally poor quality of writing. However, Season 3 seems to have corrected at least some of this mess.
Here are five Season 3 aspects that take Netflix's The Witcher to a whole new level.
5. Costumes are much better
Fans have noted that the wigs look much more realistic now, especially Geralt's. Also, the makeup for Yennefer, Tissai, and Triss has improved, while most of Yen's costumes (except maybe her H&M outfit) are more fitting and look appropriate to the book descriptions. Really, the only thing the creative team has left to do is stop putting tons of makeup on Ciri.
4. Writing has improved
Yes, many viewers are quite pleased with the quality of writing in the current season. The dialogues are much more meaningful and compelling compared to the previous chapter of The Witcher, where Nivellen seemed to be the only character worth listening to. In addition, the overall pacing of the episodes doesn't feel rushed.
3. Supporting cast is more compelling
The main trio of Geralt, Ian, and Ciri are finally together and their dynamic is given a lot of focus in the current season, but the series' secondary characters have also become more prominent. Rience seems even more miserable, the cunning Dijkstra is finally starting to look like a serious threat, and Cassie Clare is giving her best performance as sorceress Philippa Eilhart.
2. Yennefer is back on track
Fans will never forgive the show's writers for the completely out-of-character storyline they introduced last season where Yennefer wanted to give Ciri to the demon. Thankfully, it looks like this storyline won't be brought up ever again. By the end of Season 2, Yen finally started to resemble her book counterpart, becoming more bossy and elegant, and she hasn't lost any of that charm in Season 3.
1. Season 3 is close to source material
Even though the writers came up with another bunch of questionable changes, the new chapter of The Witcher is more faithful to the books than the previous one. Based on Sapkowski's Time of Contempt, the season contains both smaller references, like the letters between Geralt and Ian, and larger ones, like the revelation of the true villain, also featuring the events that will eventually lead to the infamous Thanedd Coup.
The second part of Season 3 will be released on July 27.
