The Weird Reason Hans Zimmer Has Never Scored a Marvel Movie

Hans Zimmer has scored just about every major blockbuster franchise under the sun — Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, James Bond, Dune, Gladiator, Inception — the list goes on.
But somehow, after decades in the business and over 100 film credits, the Marvel Cinematic Universe still hasn't landed him.
Not for lack of trying.
According to Zimmer, Marvel has reached out, but his answer so far has been a polite no — mostly because the timing never worked out. When asked directly by Josh Horowitz if Marvel had ever come knocking, Zimmer replied:
"They have, they have, but the timing wasn't great. Quite honestly, I'm looking for other things right now."
One of those "other things" is Chief of War, an upcoming Apple TV series starring Jason Momoa, which Zimmer is scoring. The show's being hyped as the next Game of Thrones, which probably feels like a better use of his time than scoring fight scene #347 between a sarcastic guy in a metal suit and some CGI purple thing.
As for the MCU, Zimmer says it would take something big to lure him in. And no, he's not showing up for a third-tier sidekick.
"I mean, look, I've done the trifecta. I've done Batman, Superman, Spiderman… So, where do you go from there? What do you want me to do? Some of the minor characters? [Laughing] OK, so that was very arrogant of me to say, but actually Kevin Feige has said that to me, ‘Hans, what are you complaining about?'"
So, the weird reason Zimmer hasn't scored a Marvel movie? It's not creative differences. It's not contract drama. It's that Hans Zimmer — who has already been the musical voice of three of the most iconic superheroes ever — doesn't feel especially moved to start from scratch with Marvel's bench players.
That's not a hard no forever, though. He hasn't ruled Marvel out. But if you're waiting for Zimmer to score the next Shang-Chi or Agatha spinoff… maybe don't hold your breath.
And while Marvel keeps cranking out Phase 5 content with increasingly forgettable music, Zimmer seems more interested in projects with actual weight. He's already written the score for No Time to Die, and with Denis Villeneuve just announced as director of the next Bond film, Zimmer might be headed back to 007 before he ever touches a Marvel logo.
Priorities.
