The Wednesday Season 2 Scene That Spells Trouble for Jenna Ortega
Wednesday Season 2 ends on a chilling cliffhanger as Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday envisions Aunt Ophelia, later revealed captive under Hester and scrawling the warning Wednesday must die — hinting at a deadly family betrayal and darker dangers ahead.
If you thought Season 2 was going to wrap up neat and tidy, Wednesday had other ideas. The show ended by dropping a grenade right in the middle of the Addams family tree, and it has big implications for where this thing is headed.
Season 2 leaves Wednesday with a very personal problem
The final scene gives Wednesday a vision of her Aunt Ophelia. Then we see Ophelia being held by Morticia's mother, Hester Frump, scrawling the message "Wednesday must die." Subtle? Not even a little. It reads like a threat from inside the family, and after what the creators have hinted about Ophelia, it sounds like the show is gearing up for a much darker turn.
"The reemergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb."
- Miles Millar, to Tudum
Morticia has mentioned her sister before, including the fact that Ophelia lost control of her Raven powers. That little detail matters now. And in case you missed it: Netflix has confirmed that Eva Green is joining Season 3 as Ophelia. That is some deliciously chaotic casting.
Quick refresher
'Wednesday' is created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and currently has 2 seasons. The series sits at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.0/10 on IMDb. Jenna Ortega has led the show since it premiered in 2022, and the response has been exactly what you think: loud and enthusiastic.
Jenna Ortega is back in the awards mix
Ortega scored a 2026 Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for 'Wednesday.' She was already on the awards radar after Season 1, picking up both Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominations, and Season 2 netted her a second Globe nod for this role. She is up against:
- Ayo Edebiri - The Bear
- Jean Smart - Hacks
- Kristen Bell - Nobody Wants This
- Natasha Lyonne - Poker Face
- Selena Gomez - Only Murders in the Building
What Season 3 might lean into
Ortega wants to see Wednesday and Morticia stop sniping at each other and actually team up. Her take to GamesRadar+ was pretty clear: "I would like them [Morticia and Wednesday] to stop arguing and team up." She added that she and the team had been talking about women banding together, and you can see that theme creeping in by the end of Season 2: "I think we should lean into that. It is really exciting and refreshing to see women displayed that way."
Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia, is on the same page and wants more of Morticia and her mother, Hester Frump. Zeta-Jones is returning for Season 3, which is reportedly gearing up to film in Ireland in the coming months, with a rumored release in 2027. Long wait, big swing.
So what is Ophelia actually planning for Wednesday? That message is not exactly open to interpretation, and with Eva Green stepping into the role, it sure sounds like the Addams family drama is about to get meaner and messier.
'Wednesday' is streaming on Netflix right now.
