The Wait for Outlander Season 7 Midseason Finale Will Be Longer Than You Thought
Jamie's fate will be left hanging for an entire additional week.
If you have been waiting for the Outlander midseason finale to air this Friday, August 4, we're sorry to ruin your week. It won't.
After the first half of the seventh and penultimate season of the historical series premiered on Starz on June 16, fans marked the next eight Friday nights on their calendars to enjoy a new installment of the 18th-century experience.
However, the network suddenly decided to take a break before airing Episode 8, leaving viewers to change their plans and, most importantly, wait for the resolution of one terrifying storyline. While many sources listed the premiere date of Episode 7x08 as August 4, it was recently announced that 'Turning Points' won't premiere until Friday, August 11.
But why is that? Did Starz want to give Outlander fans a taste of Droughtlander before the indefinite midseason hiatus?
The answer is probably simpler than that. For Starz, Outlander is the flagship show that brings in subscribers and big bucks. By dragging out the current season, the network is trying to maximize subscription time. If you, like many fans, have your network cancellation scheduled for the day after the Outlander midseason finale, you have to reschedule. Simple as that.
'This just ruined my day,' a disappointed fan commented on the unexpected break on Reddit. 'Who does that.'
Aside from the obvious outrage over the lengthy hiatus, viewers are furious that the fate of beloved protagonist Jamie Fraser will remain unclear for another week. The First Battle of Saratoga, shown in Episode 7, left Jamie badly wounded and seemingly dead on the battlefield. So if fans had a choice about when to take an extended break, they would never do it after such a heartbreaking twist.
Fortunately, both the Episode 8 preview and the official description, which says 'Jamie fights in the pivotal Second Battle of Saratoga,' indicate that everyone's favorite Highlander will survive. But that still doesn't excuse Starz from ruining the ultimate Outlander experience, fans say.
The good thing is there are eight more Season 7 episodes to air after 'Turning Points,' but their release dates haven't been announced yet.
