The Story of Jackie Chan's Real Daughter is Much Darker Than You Thought
The popular actor has rather questionable parenting skills.
Back in the 1980s, Jackie Chan was one of the biggest stars in the world. His martial arts movies featuring daring stunts and lots of light-hearted comic relief captured the imagination of millions. Jackie managed to further cement his success in the 1990s and 2000s, making several moderately successful movies in the US and ultimately becoming a veteran of Chinese cinema and a father figure to many generations of stunt people.
Unfortunately, it seems he pretty much neglected his own daughter, Etta Ng, in the process.
In his latest movie, Ride On, Jackie portrays an elderly stuntperson who prioritises his horse over his daughter, played by Chinese actress Liu Haocun. But when Jackie's character decides to be present in his daughter's life again, she denies him the opportunity. Naturally, by the movie's end, Jackie's character reunites with his daughter in a rather emotional and touching scene.
Obviously, the actress who portrays Jackie's daughter on screen is not his real daughter, as Jackie's biological daughter, Etta Ng, appears to have no relationship with her famous father. But why is that?
According to Etta herself, her father ceased communication with her after she revealed to him that she was a lesbian. She says her father is a homophobe and claims that he broke off all ties with her when she came out to him. Understandably, fans were somewhat disappointed with Jackie over this, arguing that blood is supposed to run thicker than dated views on human sexuality.
But then again, some fans have pointed out that Etta's mom decided to raise her on her own without Jackie's involvement, so Jackie's relationship with his daughter wasn't exactly perfect even before she told him about her sexuality.
'She chose to raise their daughter without Jackie. I don't think Jackie is responsible at all for her if anyone chooses to blame him. I think it's ridiculous that Etta is now trying to connect with her dad. I think she's trying to take advantage of him because of her situation,' a fan said.
While the situation between Jackie and Etta is undoubtedly complex, fans still hope that the two will reconnect in the future.
