A unique way to prepare for roles and the actor's favorite movie that he watches every year.

This week, Jack Quaid, the son of two of Hollywood's stars, celebrated his 33rd birthday. In recent years, he has gradually reclaimed his place among Hollywood's top actors, refusing to rely solely on his famous last name.

Here are some interesting facts about the actor, who starred in the acclaimed sci-fi horror film Companion and the action thriller Novocaine.

1. For His Role in Companion, He Watched Almost All of John Cusack's Movies

In Companion, Jack Quaid played Josh, a guy who, despite his terrible actions, sees himself more as the hero of a romantic story.

To better understand the character's inner world, Quaid went on a movie marathon of melancholy romantic films – he watched every John Cusack movie from the 1980s. According to Quaid, Josh is imitating exactly these cinematic images, only in a highly distorted and frightening form.

2. Jack Creates a Playlist for Each of His Characters

For Quaid, any work on a role is a reason to dive deep into the character's inner world. One of the most important stages of preparation is music. Jack creates a unique playlist for each character, choosing tracks that he feels reflect the character and the experience.

Music even helps him time travel: Jack imagines what the character was like as a child, in his youth, what scared him, what he dreamed about.

3. Due to Childhood Trauma, Quaid Didn't Watch Horror Movies Until He Was 20

Today, Jack Quaid is part of the cult franchise Scream, but as a child, the horror movie with Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell really scared him.

The actor was particularly frightened by the Ghostface mask that often appeared in the streets on Halloween. Many years ago, Jack saw a crowd of children wearing masks, and the image stayed with him for a long time.

The encounter was so traumatic that the actor deliberately avoided horror films for a long time and only returned to them after his twentieth birthday. And when he landed a role in the fifth film in the franchise, Quaid realized that he had finally conquered his own fears.

4. Once a Year, Jack Re-Watches Jaws

Among Quaid's favorite films, Steven Spielberg's Jaws holds a special place – the actor returns to it every year. Jack admires not only the characters and the intensity of the suspense, but also the story of how the film was made.

He is particularly inspired by the technical difficulties faced by the film crew and how these difficulties affected the style of the film: due to the malfunctioning of the mechanical sharks, the director had to create an atmosphere of fear largely without showing the main antagonist.

Quaid believes that Jaws had a huge influence on the development of the genre and the formation of blockbuster cinema as such.
