Cavill is a big fan of Sapkowski's series, and that might have been a stumbling block for him.

The Witcher Season 3, divided into two parts, released its first five episodes today. The new installment is based on the third novel in Andrzej Sapkowski's book series, Time of Contempt, telling the story of Geralt, Jennyfer, and Ciri in the midst of the Northern Kingdoms' war with Nilfgaard, led by Emhyr, who wants to conquer the entire Continent.

While the plot of the new season is incredibly intriguing, many fans are concerned about the future of the series, as the third installment is known to be the last for Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. What made the beloved actor decide to leave the project?

On October 22 of last year, it was announced that Henry Cavill would be leaving The Witcher and that Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth would be replacing him. For many, that was devastating news, given the actor's devotion to the book and game series and his excellent performance as Geralt, which was praised by Andrzej Sapkowski himself.

Some fans speculated that Cavill's departure might be caused by the actor's commitment to playing Superman in the DCEU. However, it was recently revealed that the new Clark Kent solo movie would be a prequel and that David Corenswet was cast to play the character.

The most plausible reason behind Cavill's exit from The Witcher might be his ongoing feud with the writers. The actor is very familiar with the source material and has brought a lot of books' and games' aspects to his character — for example, that unique accent that Geralt has, which reflects his Rivian background.

However, it seems that Cavill's passion for The Witcher is not shared by some of the writers.

'I've been on [a] show — namely Witcher — where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material),' Beau DeMayo, the show's producer and writer, said.

It looks like Henry Cavill felt like he was done working with those arrogant people making fun of his beloved fantasy series. At the end of the day, the creators decided to hire Hemsworth, who auditioned for the role in 2018 and apparently impressed them with his performance as Geralt with an Australian accent.

The first part of The Witcher Season 3 is out today, June 29, and the second part will arrive on July 27, 2023. Season 4 is not expected to be released before next year or later.
