The Real Reason Kim Cattrall Agreed to a Cameo on And Just Like That
No, it's not all about the money, unlike that song.
Season 2 of the sequel series to Sex and the City, And Just Like That…, has officially concluded. Just yesterday, the eleventh episode of AJLT's second season premiered on Max, giving fans of the franchise immense satisfaction, largely due to Kim Cattrall's long-anticipated cameo.
The actress portrayed Samantha Jones, a domineering marketing professional with a strong sex drive and one of the four original main characters on SATC, in both the original series and the two movie adaptations that followed the hit show.
Although Cattrall's character was the most cheerful on-screen, the actress was reportedly unhappy in the role and feuded with SATC's lead, Sarah Jessica Parker, and showrunner Michael Patrick King. As a result, Kim refused to participate in the third movie and initially said no when she was approached about appearing in And Just Like That… However, she eventually agreed to a brief cameo in the spin-off, and here's what made her change her mind.
News of Kim Cattrall's return had been circulating long before AJLT's second season premiere in late June, giving fans ample time to discuss the actress's reappearance. It was also reported that Cattrall received a substantial paycheck for the cameo, although the exact amount was never disclosed. However, it wasn't the money that finally convinced her – it was a call from HBO's CEO.
And Just Like That Fan Theory Predicts There Will Be No Season 3
According to Kim Cattrall, Casey Bloys called her, attempting to persuade her to make an appearance on And Just Like That… Moreover, she reportedly accommodated all of Cattrall's requests. Naturally, the actress couldn't refuse such a gracious offer.
'It's very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO, saying, "What can we do?" And I went, "Hmm… Let me get creative!"' Kim Cattrall shared with the hostesses in a June episode of The View. 'And one of those things was to get Pat Field back. Because I just thought, you know, if I'm gonna come back, I gotta come back with that kind of Samantha style. I gotta push it. And we did!'
For those who don't know who Patricia Field is, she is a legendary costume designer who has worked on top TV shows and movies, including Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada and is an old friend of Cattrall's. Field wasn't initially invited to design costumes for And Just Like That… but was asked to create a look for Samantha's brief on-screen appearance. And it was entirely worth it – you can see for yourself as AJLT's finale is available to stream on Max.
