It's high time we stopped turning a blind eye on his behavior.

Summary

  • Virgin River is Netflix's most popular feel-good show.
  • Jack Sheridan is portrayed as the most noble and righteous guy.
  • Despite all his good qualities, the man isn't a good person for one reason.

Generally speaking, there are two major groups of TV audiences: those who like complex emotions brought forth by drama and those who appreciate levity offered by sitcoms. But what can people craving lighter emotions do if they don't like comedy? Feel-good dramas are the answer.

In this respect, Netflix is the undisputed champion, having given the world such cozy hits as Sweet Magnolias and Virgin River. Now, it's only a couple of weeks to go before the latter drops its first-time-ever Christmas specials. And fans seem unable to conceal their excitement.

Arguably, the main reason behind the anticipation for Virgin River's Yuletide episodes lies in the fact that viewers expect some happiness for the beloved duo – Mel and Jack. The two characters have been the show's ultimate fan-favorites since day one. While Melinda is all sweetness and light, it's surprising that the audience likes Jack, since he is in no way a nice man.

Knight in Shining Armor

As a former Marine, Jack Sheridan is a tough man, rough around the edges but still quite courteous. He is determined and honest, which is, perhaps, why Melinda eventually falls for him when she first arrives in the town of Virgin River.

Arguably, as a partner Jack is good. For instance, when Charmaine tells him that she's pregnant with his twins, even though intending to deceit him, he feels it's his obligation to stay with her and care for his future children. Yet, he's still not a nice guy. And the reason is simple.

Domineering and Self-Centered

While we can't call Jack a manipulator in the strictest sense of the word, he is manipulative. Sheridan uses people to his advantage. Consider his relationship with Preacher.

Two buddies whose friendship goes way back to the army, Jack and John Middleton work together at Sheridan's bar. While it seems wholesome, it doesn't actually hold up as Jack is always acting like a boss, pushing Preacher around.

More significantly, Jack doesn't support his so-called friend when the man needs it most. Certainly, Preacher is a heart-on-the-sleeve type of guy, but he doesn't deserve to be given cold shoulders for it – especially from his best friend.

In other words, Jack Isn't worth the amount of fans' adoration he's given because he doesn't give the love back. On the bright side, he's extremely loyal, but he could still do a better job as a friend.

As for the highly anticipated Virgin River Christmas episodes, they will premiere on 30th November.
