I do not baby a greasy oven door. When the glass clouds over, I want one thing: a fix that works fast and costs next to nothing. The winner here is plain pharmacy ammonia. It is simple, cheap, and surprisingly effective on baked-on grease.
The quick mix
Stir together 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1 liter of water. That is the whole recipe. No special sprays, no fancy gels.
How I clean the oven glass
- Make sure the oven is completely cold.
- Soak a sponge or soft cloth in the ammonia solution and wipe it over the glass, covering the greasy spots well.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes to loosen the grime.
- Wipe everything down with a damp cloth, lifting away the softened grease and residue.
- Finish with a dry microfiber cloth to polish the glass clear.
Safety that actually matters
Open a window or keep the kitchen well ventilated; ammonia has a strong, sharp smell. Wear gloves so your skin does not get irritated. That is it — basic, but worth doing.
Bonus
This trick is not precious about where it works. The same solution handles other glass surfaces just as well. Start to finish, it takes only a few minutes and skips the whole aisle of specialty cleaners.
