The Night Agent storms back for Season 3 on Netflix, but fan favorite Rose Larkin won’t be on the call. Luciane Buchanan confirms her exit and teases what’s next for the franchise.

Heads up, Night Agent fans: Season 3 is coming soon on Netflix, but Rose Larkin is not part of the new mission. Luciane Buchanan just confirmed she is sitting this one out — by choice of the writers — though she is not treating it like a permanent goodbye.

What Buchanan actually said

In a new chat with Deadline, the Chief of War star — who is 32 and originally from New Zealand — said the decision was about story focus. After the Season 2 ending, the writers wanted to zero in on Gabriel Basso’s Peter Sutherland, the show’s rogue FBI operative, and not wedge Rose back in just to keep her on screen. Buchanan called the series a whirlwind for her career, especially as someone who wound up leading a U.S. hit from a small New Zealand start, but she agreed with the creative call: if Rose doesn’t fit organically this season, don’t force it.

Why Rose is out of Season 3

Behind the scenes, the team did look for ways to include Rose, but decided they couldn’t do right by the character without reducing her to a side note. Buchanan says she respects that and would rather come back when it makes sense than be a token presence. For now, we don’t see what happens to Rose on screen in Season 3.

"It’s not a goodbye forever... maybe we’ll make a little cameo along the way."

So what does Season 3 look like?

Creator Shawn Ryan and his writers are steering the new chapter squarely toward Peter’s journey coming out of Season 2. That’s where the show wants to live right now. Buchanan is open to returning later — and even teased a possible cameo down the line — but this season is Peter’s show.

  • Luciane Buchanan confirms Rose Larkin will not appear in The Night Agent Season 3.
  • The writers chose to focus on Peter Sutherland after the events of Season 2 rather than bring Rose back as a background player.
  • Buchanan says the role has been huge for her career and she supports the decision not to force Rose into the story.
  • She hints the door is open for a future return, possibly as a cameo.
  • Season 3 is coming soon to Netflix; the interview and confirmation came via Deadline.

Inside baseball note: for a hit this size, letting a fan favorite sit a season is a pretty disciplined move. If they stick the landing with Peter, it could make Rose’s eventual return feel like a real event instead of an obligation.
