The second chapter could not keep up with the first.

All episodes of the second season of the spy series The Night Agent – one of the main hits of Netflix – have been released.

The story of FBI agent Peter Sutherland quickly became a leader in views, so the management did not skimp: the show was renewed for the next season.

What Is The Night Agent Season 2 About?

In the second season, Peter Sutherland himself becomes a night agent, working undercover with a partner in Bangkok. They are exposed, and now it is Sutherland's turn to call the emergency hotline for help – someone has betrayed them.

As in the first season, major players with inexhaustible resources are drawn into the conflict to use chemical weapons on US territory. Peter again teams up with Rose to stop the impending disaster. This time, the stakes are much higher, with the lives of millions at stake.

The Second Season Has the Same Structure as the First

The main difference of the new chapter is the secondary nature of the plot. The script is written according to the same template, but now it just does not work: all the plot twists are predictable, and the villains look unconvincing.

The main character still runs forward, uncovers conspiracies, and fights bad guys with varying degrees of success. Despite all the clichés of spy thrillers, the first season maintained a good dynamic rhythm and could sometimes surprise with unexpected twists that have been invented by the author of the original book.

Season 2 Has Almost No Memorable Side Characters or Villains

The secondary characters also made an impression: creepy killers, a heroic bodyguard who saved the president, the vice-president's daughter with a personal drama, and the season's main antagonist turned out to be quite convincing.

Now, the show has no one bright villain left, except Solomon. All the antagonists look like they are in for a filler episode. For example, the Iranian embassy security was supposed to be a real threat, but was never fully revealed.

The Night Agent Season 2 Became Closer to Action B-Movies

Technically, the series still looks good. Perfect visuals, beautiful shots and spectacular action – there is something to look at. Some of the hand-to-hand combats resemble fights from classic Hong Kong action movies by John Woo.

The Night Agent does not pretend to be an outstanding spy drama, but it remains a solid action series that can brighten up an evening. The show has taken a small step towards the B category – which means not for the better.

The Night Agent Season 2 Will Not Surprise Experienced Spy Thriller Fans

It is unlikely to surprise experienced audiences, but it may attract new viewers who are willing to overlook its secondary nature.

The main problem of the second season is the formulaic approach to the story. The good old spy thriller formula can still work if you take your time and pay attention to the details.

In the case of The Night Agent, however, the result is more reminiscent of an unfinished, hastily created reincarnation of Jack Bauer.
