The Most Underrated TBBT Friendship is the One You Least Expected

CBS's The Big Bang Theory became one of the most iconic sitcoms seemingly out of nowhere, as no one could have predicted that a show about a bunch of socially awkward nerds could become a global hit. But thanks to the great chemistry between all the main characters, the show ended up as a household name in no time, with people enjoying the verbal repartee between Sheldon and Leonard as well as Penny's 'normie' reactions to unapologetic nerdiness of her new neighbours.

TBBT was, ultimately, a show about friendship and relationships, which makes it all the more bizarre that its fans have always largely overlooked one particular friendship.

Leonard and Sheldon's bromance was always the biggest enduring constant in the entire show. However, Sheldon's relationship with Bernadette somehow never got much fan love, even though it was quite unique in that you hardly ever see a man and a woman depicted as simply enjoying each other's company on primetime television. Usually, there is always some sexual tension going on, and yet, there's absolutely none of that between Sheldon and Bernadette.

The two don't get many one-on-one scenes, but the chemistry between them is palpable, and the respect Sheldon has always expressed for her for everything she did speaks volumes about how he felt about her. While Bernadette is often harsh on other characters, she's never rude to Sheldon, who also goes out of his way to avoid offending her.

'Bernie and Sheldon! They don't insult each other much, and Sheldon seems to more or less respect her intellect. When she was pregnant, he made a point of not commenting and waiting to see if someone would confirm instead of his normal rudeness,' a fan observed.

Fans still fondly remember some of the interactions between Sheldon and Bernadette because, unlike with other characters, Sheldon is never rude towards her and always tries to support her, even though the two are not romantically involved.

'One of my favourite moments between these two is when Bernie was telling the story about how she felt like a bad mum because Hallie wouldn't stop crying, so Sheldon looked up on his phone how to make new moms feel better, then patted her on the head and told her she was doing a good job,' another fan shared.

Some of TBBT's other friendships may seem more bombastic, but Sheldon and Bernadette's is certainly the most endearing.
