Millions of fans love The Twilight Saga for its main romantic arc.

The love story between human Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen has captured the attention of audiences worldwide, but there are those who feel that the most romantic moment was not between the protagonists but between Jasper Hale and Alice Cullen.

Jasper, played by Jackson Rathbone, is initially presented to viewers as Alice's husband and the most mysterious member of the Cullen clan. Not much is known about him except that he struggles to survive on animal blood and often looks cold and unemotional.

This lack of expression is later explained, as viewers learn that Jasper has the ability to sense and influence emotions, both positive and negative.

The series' third installment reintroduces Jasper as one of the most complex characters in the entire franchise. When werewolves and vampires must team up against an army of newborn vampires, it turns out that Jasper has extensive experience with newborns. He tells Bella his backstory, which is both shocking and sad. Jasper was the youngest major in the Confederate Army when he was turned by a vampire named Maria, who wanted to use his unique ability to dominate other clans.

Jasper trained newborns — and disposed of them when they were no longer useful.

He was driven by his bloodlust, which he was never taught to control, and the love he thought he and Maria had — but Maria actually manipulated him while he knew no better. Killing his victims, both human and vampire, Jasper felt their pain, which nearly drove him to madness. Fortunately, Alice found and saved Jasper, thanks to her ability to see the future — and that's when Jasper's story gets incredibly romantic.

"I don't know what I'd have become without her," he says desperately, as if still reliving his terrible past.

But then Alice shows up, hugs him, and says the one line that obviously never fails to calm him down, lighting up Jasper's face with the most genuine emotion.

"You'll never have to be that again," she says.

The couple kisses, and Bella realizes that Alice is Jasper's anchor, and their bond is the most precious thing in his life. It's no wonder many fans consider this single scene to be a more powerful love story than the entire arc of Bella and Edward.
