Many are skeptical about the show going to the 'next level.'

Well folks, dark times are upon us. With Hollywood actors, represented by the SAG-AFTRA union, joining the writers' strike, there is no doubt that the consequences for the film and TV industry will be truly devastating.

And with so many movies and shows getting canceled or postponed, the only entertainment for us in the coming months will be reality series. One of the most intriguing of them is, of course, The Mole, a reboot of the iconic reality competition show that aired between 2001 and 2008. However, a controversial update about the upcoming Season 2 has just surfaced, dividing fans into two camps.

After a 14-year hiatus, Netflix picked up ABC's The Mole, giving it a new life and bringing more fans to the show. The first season on Netflix (and the sixth overall) was released in October 2022, and in February of this year, the show was renewed for one more season.

In addition, Eureka Productions recently shared some more information about their show's new season.

According to the producers, The Mole Season 2 'can literally be a blockbuster movie.'

'I'm very glad we're getting a second season! I really thought Netflix was done with this show,' a fan commented on the news.

But the marketing pathos didn't impress all the fans, as some people are a bit skeptical about the update.

'I don't need a blockbuster movie an episode, I want the suspense, intrigue, and human connection of the original show,' another fan said.

Of course, both long-time viewers and those who recently joined the fandom expect The Mole to be a fun and intrigue-filled reality series, showing genuine emotion and reactions from the participants. On the contrary, a 'blockbuster'-style season suggests that there will be some scripted, movie-like scenes, which is not what fans want from their favorite show.

However, Eureka Productions is yet to reveal more details, and it's not clear what the producers imply by the 'blockbuster' description. If they mean bigger budgets and more impressive cinematography, fans would probably embrace the changes, provided that the overall feel of the show isn't hurt.

The Mole's rules remain the same for Season 2: a group of contestants earn money, and the last person standing gets it. In each episode, one person is secretly designated 'the Mole' by the producers, and they must prevent the others from earning money. Contestants take a quiz to show what they know about the mole, and the one who scored the least is eliminated.

The release date for the new season is still unknown, but it's expected to premiere in the fall of this year, or later.
