The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Creators' New Show Has 86% on RT, but No One Is Watching It

And it definitely deserves a lot more attention.
The first season of Étoile, a new series from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, creators of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has been released on Amazon Prime Video. We tell you why you should notice the show about the world of ballet with an unusual plot.
What Is Étoile About?
The world of high ballet is under threat: the venues were empty before, and patrons rarely sponsored expensive art, but the pandemic has noticeably worsened everything and even added a bunch of new problems.
The temporary director of the French Opera, Geneviève, offers to somehow save the situation and revive the slowly dying ballet. Desperate, she comes to New York to see her colleague, Jack, the director of the Metropolitan Theater, and offers a deal – to swap the best talents for a year.
At first Jack refuses because the exchange is being financed by a wealthy man with a shady reputation, but he finally agrees under several conditions. One of them is that the main star of the French ballet, Cheyenne, be sent to him.
Étoile Went Almost Unnoticed, But It Deserves More Attention
Two years ago, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel left the small screen with the undisputed status of one of the best shows of our time: 22 Emmy Awards and millions of fans.
It's strange to realize that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino's new project came out as if there was no Mrs. Maisel at all: minimal hype, modest reviews, and less than two thousand ratings on IMDB two weeks after its release.
Maybe it's the off-putting French title, or the setting, which isn't the most intriguing for a wide audience, but the fact remains: Étoile is clearly not getting enough attention from viewers.
You Will Definitely Like Étoile Even if You've Never Seen Ballet Before
The creative duo are making a truly necessary and provocative series about the value of art in a post-pandemic world, its commercialization, and the crisis of certain forms that are unable to shed the aura of snobbery and become mass entertainment. The ballet, trapped in its own small world, is perfect for this role.
Étoile is an ambitious, stylish and technically accurate series that soulfully explores ballet and the crisis of the art form in the post-pandemic era. The duo of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino once again impress with inventive direction and witty dialogue.
