A lot of these releases won't see the light of day until late 2024 at the earliest.

Now in its fourth month, the SAG-AFTRA strike has still failed to reach an agreement with the studios represented by the AMPTP. The studios are refusing to budge on key terms, and the entire TV and film industry is suffering as a result.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA have had a delayed effect: few of this year's new releases have been affected as work on them was completed before the labor disputes broke out in Hollywood. So it's going to be next year, 2024, when we see the fallout from the current strikes in all its glory. Let's look at the most high-profile movies and TV shows whose fate is now in limbo because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

6. Mortal Kombat 2

The sequel to the 2021 film, based on a cult video game series, was scheduled for release in August 2024. That's been null-and-voided now. Principal photography for the film began this past June and was supposed to have wrapped up in September, but production was paused because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Now, it’s clear we won’t be seeing it in theaters until 2025.

5. Minecraft

The upcoming American-Swedish film, based on a popular video game of the same name, was to have begun filming this past August. Naturally, that didn't happen because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, with the release date having now been pushed back to April 4, 2025. But seeing how the strike is still ongoing, even that late date is only tentative.

4. Interview with the Vampire, Season 2

The TV series based on the Ann Rice vampire novels was received with even more enthusiasm than the cult 1994 film. Principal photography for the second season began in April but was cut short by the strikes. The good news is that since AMC Studios is not a member of the AMPTP, they managed to sign a provisional agreement with the actors, which allowed them to resume production, so we should see the second season on our screens sometime in 2024.

3. The Last of Us, Season 2

The Duffer brothers have been working hard on the script for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things ever since the WGA strike got resolved. Producer Shawn Levy says production will begin as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike ends, which means that the best-case scenario for the release of this show's last installment is also late 2024.
