Some of those theories aren’t as far-fetched as they sound—an unusually frank admission poised to ignite a fresh debate.

Sadie Sink is officially swinging into Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a.k.a. the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie. And in a very Hollywood twist, she basically learned she was in the movie the same way we did: from the internet.

How she actually found out

"I found out through online theories," Sink told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. "Before I got cast in Spider-Man, there was speculation online that said, 'Sadie Sink is gonna be in the new Spider-Man,' I was like, 'I am?' Sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it! So yeah, those theories, there's sometimes some truth to it!"

Yep, she saw the rumor first, then got the Marvel Studios call 48 hours later. Wild.

So who is she playing?

Marvel is keeping her role under lock and key, which has turned the internet into a weekly guessing game. Sink says the nonstop fan theories are kind of torture at this point because there seems to be a new character tossed at her every week.

  • Mary Jane Watson: The classic pick. A new take would be a headline-grabber, but it also comes with a lot of baggage.
  • Rachel Cole (Punisher protege): Honestly the one that makes the most sense to me, especially with Jon Bernthal back as Frank Castle in this movie and those leaked set photos that seem to show Sink in camo.
  • Jean Grey (X-Men): A swingier option. If true, that would be a big MCU statement, but file this under 'beloved character everyone wants to cast in everything' until proven otherwise.

Keeping the secret (mostly)

Sink says she only tells people she actually knows, and so far her close friends and family have kept it quiet. Marvel thanks you for your service.

When we see it

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31. Until then, expect the rumor mill to keep doing what it does best — and maybe, just maybe, land another one right before Marvel makes it official.
