The Idol's Xander Wasn't Troye Sivan's First Role: Here's Where He Starred Before
From young superhuman to animated troll, Troye Sivan has played a range of other roles.
South African-born and Australian-raised Troye Sivan is known for many things; he's a famous YouTuber, singer, model, and actor. The 28-year-old recently appeared in the twisted and controversial 2023 series The Idol as Xander. He plays creative director and long-time friend to Jocelyn and acts alongside Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd.
It’s been a while since he's acted on screen, so we took a look back at his previous roles:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Sivan appeared as the younger version of Wolverine (James Howlett) in the 4th movie of the X-Men franchise. In a flashback, Sivan appears in a defining moment of the character’s childhood, as he discovers his abilities and attacks his biological father in a fit of rage. Even at a young age, the actor could show raw emotions and convince audiences.
Spud Franchise (2010, 2013, 2014)
The movie role many will recognize him for is John Milton, or the awkward schoolboy dubbed ‘Spud’ by his friends. He led a cast of boys at a South African boarding school as they navigated rules, relationships, and identity over the three comedic, heartwarming coming-of-age films in the Spud franchise.
Boy Erased (2018)
Sivan played the supporting role of Gary in the American biographical film Boy Erased. The film features themes of sex and spirituality and follows the story of the main character, Jared, who is sent into Christian gay conversion therapy. Gary is also in the program and plays along until he is allowed to leave.
Three Months (2022)
He played the leading role in the comedy-drama Three Months. Sivan appeared as Caleb, who finds out on the eve of his high school graduation that he has been exposed to HIV. The film takes a lighthearted approach to deliver life lessons over the three months that Caleb has to wait for his HIV test results.
Trolls Band Together (2023)
It seems that Sivan is not afraid to spread his wings and try a variety of different genres, with his latest being voicing the character Floyd in the third installment of the animated musical Trolls franchise.
So far, the only TV series Troye Sivan has appeared on is The Idol, with 4 episodes out of the confirmed 5 having aired.
We’re not sure what will come next for Troye Sivan. It could be another song, another acting role, or another modeling campaign, but we’re certain fans will be seeing him somewhere again, sometime soon.
