The Housemaid Made $400M on $35M. Here Is Everyone Now Cast in the Sequel.
Stephen Kalyn has closed a deal to join The Housemaid's Secret, which now has Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow and Paul Anthony Kelly, with Paul Feig directing again. Lionsgate has it dated for December 17, 2027 — two years after a $35M thriller turned into a $400M one.
Kalyn plays Brock, a lawyer Millie Calloway starts seeing as she tries to build a normal life. Per TheWrap's description of the role, he knows nothing about what she has spent the last several years doing. Sweeney returns as Millie, taking a job keeping house for a woman she is never permitted to see.
The cast, and who each of them is playing
- Sydney Sweeney — Millie Calloway, back for a second job with a second rich family.
- Kirsten Dunst — Wendy Garrick, the wife behind the locked door. Cast in March 2026.
- Paul Anthony Kelly — Douglas Garrick, the billionaire husband. His feature debut; cast in June 2026.
- Brittany Snow — Marybeth, a receptionist. Cast in August 2026.
- Michele Morrone — Enzo, returning from the first film.
- Stephen Kalyn — Brock. Announced August 31, 2026.
The number that explains why this sequel exists
The Housemaid opened December 19, 2025 to $19M and third place, behind Avatar: Fire and Ash and David. It finished at $126.4M domestic and roughly $400M worldwide on a $35M budget — better than an eleven-times return, off a 6.6x opening-weekend multiplier that says word of mouth did most of the work. It carried a B CinemaScore and 73% on Rotten Tomatoes; audiences liked it considerably more than the reviews suggested.
It is also, by a distance, the biggest film of Paul Feig's career — bigger than Ghostbusters ($229M), bigger than A Simple Favor ($97.6M) — and it arrived after two straight features (Jackpot!, Another Simple Favor) that went directly to streaming. And it is Sweeney's biggest, past Anyone but You's $220M, at the end of a year in which Christy set a record for the steepest second-weekend drop on record.
Where Kalyn is coming from
Off Campus, the Prime Video drama adapted from Elle Kennedy's books, premiered May 13, 2026 and was renewed for a second season three months before it aired. Kalyn plays hockey defenceman Dean Di Laurentis, a supporting part in season one that becomes one of the central roles in season two. He is stepping up inside his own show and into a studio franchise in the same twelve months.
What is not settled yet
- Amanda Seyfried. Nothing is signed. She has said publicly she "almost guarantees" she will turn up in some small cameo, and that it would be nice for Millie to have Nina "in her pocket a little bit as a support system" — but Nina is not in the second novel, and no deal has been announced.
- Production start. Reported only as autumn 2026. No date, no location, no budget figure.
- The source. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first film, is adapting Freida McFadden's 2023 second novel. A third book, The Housemaid Is Watching, already exists.
Lionsgate is not treating this as a sequel so much as the second instalment of an annual thriller franchise built on a $35M template. The tell is the date: December 17, 2027, the same pre-Christmas corridor where the first one caught fire.
