The Gentlemen Is Back Thursday, and Netflix Renewed It Again Before You Watched a Frame
The Gentlemen season two lands on Netflix on Thursday, all eight episodes at once, two and a half years after season one. Netflix already renewed it for a third season ten days before this one arrived — which tells you how the first one performed.
Season one premiered 7 March 2024 and spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Netflix's global English TV chart — 12.2M views in four days, then 20.1M, then 11.7M. Netflix's own half-year report put it at 76 million views across the first half of 2024 and named it one of the ten biggest shows of that period.

- Returning: Theo James (Eddie Horniman), Kaya Scodelario (Susie Glass), Ray Winstone (Bobby Glass), Daniel Ings (Freddy), Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Jasmine Blackborow, Harry Goodwins, Michael Vu.
- New: Hugh Bonneville, Sergio Castellitto, Michele Morrone, Benedetta Porcaroli, Benjamin Clementine, Maya Jama, Chris Eubank Jr., plus a dozen smaller additions.
- Directors: Guy Ritchie, Eran Creevy and Nick Rowland (Calm With Horses), who takes episode seven.
- Shot from late April to late October 2025, in the UK and around Lake Maggiore and Verbania in Italy.
The premise, per Netflix
"It's been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby's criminal empire overseas. As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound."
Ritchie described the season as "a deliberate expansion, both geographically and thematically, as we journey from the English countryside to the Italian lakes." The trailer, out 24 August, adds a push to decriminalise cannabis, a caged tiger, and an Eddie who has stopped being the reluctant aristocrat.
Fifteen months of casting, and not one character name
Here is the odd part. Bonneville, Morrone, Porcaroli, Castellitto, Clementine, Jama and Eubank Jr. were all announced in May 2025. None of them has a publicly announced character. A second wave in December 2025 got names — Charles Edwards as Simon Macdougall, Antonio Bustorff as Victor, Daniel Attwell as "Fucksake Frank" — but the marquee additions are still blanks fifteen months on.
Where this sits in Ritchie's year
2026 has given him four releases: Young Sherlock on Prime Video in March (renewed, filming season two in Sicily), the film In the Grey in May (49% on Rotten Tomatoes, $23.7M worldwide), The Gentlemen this week, and Wife & Dog with Benedict Cumberbatch and Anthony Hopkins on 23 October. Two of the four are series on rival platforms, and both have been renewed.
Worth knowing before you start
- Season one scored 75% with critics and 84% with audiences; Metacritic 66 from 27 reviews.
- It is a spin-off, not a sequel, of Ritchie's 2019 film. Same world, entirely new characters — no McConaughey, no Farrell, no Hugh Grant, and no announced crossover.
- Season three is already ordered: eight episodes, production later this year. Reports that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was in talks for a role remain unconfirmed; Netflix has declined to comment and at least one outlet says she is no longer under consideration. Treat it as rumour.
