Fans argue that Dobrev was robbed of her awards.

A decade ago, The CW was the go-to destination for all things teen, churning out hit after hit and launching many rising stars.

But even though the network was loved by millions of fans, it was never popular with professional critics who refused to give awards to The CW shows, describing them as light entertainment unworthy of critical recognition.

In that regard, it looks like The Vampire Diaries has suffered the most. The story of young vampires and their romantic affairs had been The CW's most popular show throughout its eight-year run, but none of the series' stars ever received Emmy nominations for their roles, and many fans still find this fact utterly outrageous.

Viewers believe that both Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder deserved a chance to compete for an Emmy award. However, while Ian's exclusion from the Emmys could be tolerated by fans, the same cannot be said for Nina, whose performance on The Vampire Diaries was arguably as complex as they come.

In the series, Nina played several different people — Elena Gilbert, Katherine Pierce, and Amara — and each of these characters felt different, which is a testament to how much talent and hard work Dobrev had put in them. Fans thought that the star deserved at least a nomination for her efforts, but it was denied season after season, leaving both the audience and the actress frustrated.

'She did a fantastic job. I often think that TV series from channels like CW will always be overlooked. All under the prejudice that they are channels only producing cuteish-okayish "stuff" for teenagers and no adult would take it seriously,' a fan argued on Reddit.

However, some commenters are quite sure that Dobrev's missing out on those Emmy nominations in the latter parts of the show is entirely her fault. The fans argue that her performances started to stagnate around the Season 5 mark.

'By S5 Katherine was a shell of what she was when she was first introduced. Katherine wasn't Katherine-ing anymore. This is a combination of both poor writing and her acting, Nina reduced Kat to over-exaggerated mouth movements and a raspy voice,' another fan noted.

In any case, it looks like The CW and its shows are cursed in terms of how critics receive them. The network's other projects are rarely given a chance to shine at the Emmys, and sadly, Nina Dobrev and her co-stars fell victims to this injustice.
