The Craziest Virgin River Fan Theory Will Have You Gasping for Air
However silly, this theory is very satisfying.
Summary
- The revelation of Mel's biological father was the epitome of season 5 of Virgin River.
- Many fans didn't appreciate how the writers approached the storyline.
- If the theory were to be true, it would fix the whole thing and bring joy to the audience.
Since this year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have been over for a while now, most of our beloved shows, including Young Sheldon, Chicago Fire, and Blue Bloods, have returned. So has Virgin River, Netflix's most popular romantic drama, which is why fans are looking forward to the show's upcoming sixth season. However, Season 5 remains a hot topic as well.
Released in early September, Part 1 of the fifth season of Virgin River was one of the few premieres of the fall. Under the circumstances, it is no surprise that VR fans were happy to have a new season of their beloved series to watch. And indeed, Season 5 of Virgin River offered plenty of intrigue and drama - from the wildfires that destroyed half of the titular town to Mel's search for her biological father.
Interestingly, many viewers expected Doc, Melinda's boss and best friend, with whom she shares a captivating father-daughter relationship, to turn out to be her father. However, the Christmas specials that premiered two weeks ago revealed that it was Everett Reid, a man who lived on the outskirts of Virgin River and whom we'd never seen before. As satisfying as it was to see Mel get a family, many fans were upset by the lack of drama in this outcome. Naturally, a wild theory emerged.
Everett is Doc's Brother
Take your time and think about this! There are a number of reasons why this wouldn't be too far-fetched. First and foremost, what's the point of introducing a completely unknown character as the father of the lead character at the apparent end of the show's run? Maybe there will be two more seasons of Virgin River, but it won't be enough to explore Melinda and Everett's relationship and his character in the first place.
Then what was the point of the whole family relationship between Mel and Doc that the audience is obsessed with? Their bond seems so natural that they can't help but be related. If they are not father and daughter, they might as well be uncle and niece.
While Doc has only mentioned his sisters during Virgin River's five-season run, he may also have a half-brother he doesn't know about. Hopefully, you'll agree that this would be entirely within the context of Virgin River's overall narrative. But sadly, at this point, we can only wait for Season 6 to see where the writers take Mel and Everett's storyline.
