The Conjuring Franchise Unveils Next Film’s Title, Director, and Release Date
Warner Bros. has unleashed the next chapter in its supernatural saga, announcing The Conjuring: First Communion will hit theaters on September 10, 2027.
Well, it looks like Warner Bros. isn’t done scaring up sequels: there’s a brand new Conjuring movie headed our way. And not only do we know it’s happening, but the studio’s already locked in a title, a director, and a (way off in the distance) release date.
Here’s What We Know So Far
- Title: The next entry is officially called 'The Conjuring: First Communion'.
- Release Date: Mark your calendars, but don’t hold your breath—it’s set for September 10, 2027. Yes, you read that right: 2027. Either they want us really hyped in advance, or movies just take forever now.
- Director: Rodrigue Huart is making his Conjuring-verse debut in the director’s chair.
- Writers: Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg are penning the script. These guys already got their hands dirty with 'The Nun II' and 'The Conjuring: Last Rites', so they know their way around a haunted artifact.
- Producers: James Wan (the franchise godfather) and Peter Safran are producing, so you know it’ll feel like classic Conjuring even with a new director.
So…What Is 'First Communion' Actually About?
Here’s where things are a little fuzzy. Warner Bros. is being cagey with details—no plot info, no casting confirmations, nothing that even tells us if we’re sticking with Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s long-running roles), or jumping to another era or set of leads.
Remember, the last movie ('Last Rites' from 2025) really felt like a send-off: it ends with the Warrens at their daughter Judy’s (Mia Tomlinson) wedding, and Lorraine sharing a mysterious vision of the couple’s future. That could mean the series finally pivots to Judy and her new husband Tony Spera (Ben Hardy), especially since Judy’s also got psychic abilities (runs in the family, apparently). The door is certainly open for the next generation to take over the paranormal sleuthing business.
Or—let’s be honest—the Conjuring-verse also loves a good prequel, so we could just as easily be getting another backstory for Ed and Lorraine or some creepy artifact from their collection.
A Quick Refresher: The Sprawling Conjuring Universe
If you lost count, we’re up to nine movies (not including 'First Communion'). Since the original in 2013, we’ve gotten everything from 'Annabelle' to 'The Nun', all loosely stitched together by the Warrens and a warehouse full of cursed toys, dolls, and relics. Nearly every creepy painting, doll, or artifact you see gets a shot at its own spin-off eventually. It’s basically the horror version of the MCU, except no one’s assembling to fight Thanos.
Bottom Line
Right now, all we really have is a title, a release date that’s years away, and a creative team with legit experience in this horror sandbox. No plot, no cast, but a boatload of speculation. If you’re a diehard Conjuring fan, you’re probably already counting the days to 2027. If you’re just horror-curious, well, you’ve got plenty of time to catch up (and plenty of haunted dolls to get through).
'The Conjuring: First Communion' arrives September 10, 2027. Everything else is up in the air...for now.
