The Cheesy, Crunchy Turkey-and-Ham Stromboli That Steals the Show at Family Dinner
Stretchy cheese and aromatic spices deliver instant euphoria, fueling a molten new craze that’s sweeping the food scene.
Craving pizza vibes without the same old round pie? Make stromboli. It is basically a rolled Italian pie: crisp on the outside, molten and savory inside, easy to slice and pass around. This one packs turkey, ham, tomatoes, and mozzarella, and it comes together with weeknight-level effort but looks like you tried harder. I am a fan of that ratio.
What you need
- Ready yeast dough - 500 g
- Cooked turkey fillet - 150 g
- Ham - 100 g
- Mozzarella - 120 g
- Tomatoes - 2 medium (about 200 g)
- Tomato sauce - 3 tbsp
- Olive oil - 2 tbsp
- Dried oregano - 0.5 tsp
- Dried basil - 0.5 tsp
- Salt - a pinch
- Freshly ground black pepper - a pinch
How to make it
1. Prep the filling. Cut the cooked turkey and the ham into small cubes. Rinse and dry the tomatoes, slice them thin, then remove seeds and excess liquid so the filling stays balanced, not soggy. Slice the mozzarella or grate it on the coarse side.
2. Roll the base. On a lightly floured surface, roll the yeast dough into a rectangle about 5 mm thick. Spread the tomato sauce over the surface, leaving a 3 to 4 cm border all around. Sprinkle on the dried oregano and basil. Scatter the turkey, ham, and tomato slices evenly. Finish with the mozzarella on top so it melts into that ideal stretchy layer.
3. Shape the stromboli. Roll the dough up into a snug log, tucking the ends in so nothing escapes while baking. Set it seam side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the top with olive oil for a golden, crisp finish.
4. Bake it right. Heat the oven to 190 C. Make a few shallow slashes along the top to vent steam and keep the crust from tearing. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the exterior is deeply golden and firm.
5. Let it settle, then slice. Give it 5 to 7 minutes to rest so the cheese sets slightly and the slices hold together. Cut into portions and serve warm.
What you get: a shatter-crisp crust, juicy turkey-and-ham center, and that mozzarella pull everyone pretends they do not care about and then films anyway. Great for family dinner, even better for a casual party.
