The Boys Spin-Off Gen V Will Be So Much Nastier Than the Original Show
Same as The Boys, only Crazier.
You thought The Boys was mind-blowing? Its spinoff is set to be even crazier. The Boys cinematic universe is poised to expand with the release of Gen V on Prime Video in the fall of 2023, and fans are on the edge of their seats, anticipating something unique and thrilling. Expectations are high, but the promises are even higher.
Seth Rogen, an executive producer on both shows, told Empire Magazine that the premise of Gen V offers a billion wild options that could make the show even more shocking than the original series.
‘Gen V has some really crazy shit in it. The fact that they’re in college, they’re a little younger, makes it more shocking maybe,’ he said.
Based on the fourth volume of Garth Ennis' comic book series, the spinoff will focus on a group of young adult supes studying at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, run by the infamous Vought International. They are placed in a battle royale scenario where only a select few will get the best contracts in the best cities.
Knowing how violent and graphic things can get in The Boys universe, fans expect the battle in Gen V to be all kinds of savage. Rogen assures that there were no constraints imposed on the show's creators other than their own imagination and the penal code.
‘In general, if you’re making an R-rated thing, they let you do whatever the f**k you want, unless there’s some real legal thing that they think you might be bumping against,’ the producer said. ‘With The Boys, maybe it requires one extra five-minutes phone call, where they’re like, “Really?”, and you’re like, “Really.”’
The spinoff, slated to air a few months before the eagerly anticipated Season 4 of The Boys, will include some exciting references to the parent show, according to Vernon Sanders, Amazon's head of television.
‘There are lots of Easter eggs that I think fans will love. And it’s a great combination of social commentary, blood, there’s lots of blood, a really cool mystery,’ Sanders told Collider last year, fueling the audience’s anticipation.
