The Boys Fans Not Holding Back After Antony Starr's 2023 Emmys Snub
The actor was snubbed again.
The list of nominees for the 2023 Emmys has just been announced, and many people are not pleased with the choices made by the voting committee, arguing that some of the most prominent actors in the industry were simply robbed of their chance to win a coveted award.
And while fans of HBO's Succession are more than happy, as the show received three nominations for best lead actor, one for best actress, and an astounding four nominations for best supporting actor in a drama series, people who followed Amazon Prime's The Boys are outraged by the Emmys lineup, preparing to boycott the upcoming ceremony.
Even though the unusual superhero show is undoubtedly one of the most popular projects in the current television landscape, critics have been less than supportive of The Boys, refusing to recognize the show with any kind of awards. However, given how well-received the third season was, fans were fully expecting Emmy to finally notice the show, hoping that at least Antony Starr's performance as the villainous Homelander would be recognized.
But alas, Starr was snubbed once again — there was simply not enough room for him to earn the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series trophy, with the Emmy voters nominating three actors from Succession instead. And while they were all undeniably good, people felt that Brian Cox didn't deserve a nomination since he only appeared in three episodes of the final season.
'Succession is an incredible show, but Brian Cox should not have been nominated for lead actor for a season he was barely in. Either Antony [Starr] or Paddy Considine should've have gotten the last spot over him,' one fan said.
Although Starr's exclusion from the nominations wasn't surprising for the fandom, people are more offended that The Boys was snubbed from other nominations, including technical ones.
'I kind of was expecting this but what I wasn't expecting was the way they got robbed for technical/creative Emmys. SFX nominations physically hurt seeing Ted Lasso there and not The Boys,' a disappointed fan commented.
The 2023 Emmys will air on Fox on September 18, 2023.
