To this day, The Big Bang Theory remains one of the most popular sitcoms in the world. The CBS comedy about a group of socially awkward scientists from CalTech and their friends had a complicated journey on the air, as the show's first season was so unpopular that TBBT was almost canceled by the network. Fortunately, the show was given another chance and ended up running for a whopping twelve seasons.

Perhaps the main reason for TBBT's enormous popularity with audiences is the show's memorable characters. For example, Sheldon Cooper has become an integral part of modern pop culture, even getting his own spin-off, Young Sheldon, even though he wasn't the nicest character on the show with his quirks and antics. But he wasn't the worst character, either.

An Unfortunate Date

Raj Koothrappali was notoriously awkward and couldn't even speak in front of women for most of The Big Bang Theory. However, as the show progressed, he evolved and started going out on dates. Some of his girls were second to none, but Raj also contrived to date Lucy, who is widely considered by fans to be the worst character on TBBT.

It may seem impossible, but Lucy was even more awkward than Raj. But that's not the reason why she is so hated by the fans of the show. During the short time she and Raj were together, she constantly made him feel bad about himself and blamed him for the shortcomings of their relationship, even though she was just as incompetent as he was. Furthermore, whenever Raj tried to fix things, she would ruin everything because of her insecurities.

Fans on Lucy Hatred

This is exactly why TBBT fans can't stand Lucy.

'Lucy really out here trying to blame Raj for the relationship failing when she literally ran off anytime he tried to just ask her where it was going,' one Riddit user wrote.

Interestingly, some people feel that as bad as she was as a partner, she really helped Raj shine, for which she should be given credit.

'She let Raj be the confident and pursuant one, which he's never been before since he's the anxious one,' another Redditor observed. 'Usually he's the "broken" one. Then when his feelings, which were stronger because the relationship was different than his usual "I can't talk to her, she's so confident and pretty," got hurt because she left him, it was the switch that finally flipped and gave his voice back.'

And indeed, after Lucy, Raj became more confident and outgoing. But that doesn't change the fact that Lucy was the worst character on TBBT.
