Of course The Asylum pounced. Sony is rolling out a comedic Anaconda reboot in theaters on December 25, so The Asylum just dropped its own snake flick, The Anacondas, straight to digital. Classic counter-programming move, and honestly, kind of impressive timing.
What is The Anacondas?
It is the latest mockbuster from The Asylum, and the setup is exactly the kind of pulpy premise you think it is: a team of explorers heads into Mexico, digs up ruins tied to an ancient snake cult, and accidentally wakes a giant anaconda that has not had a human sacrifice in ages. The catch: the more it feeds, the bigger it gets. Survival mode engaged.

Director Marcel Walz (Garden of Eden) is behind the camera. The script is by Ryan Ebert (Shark Side of the Moon) and Marc Gottlieb (Ape X Mecha Ape: New World Order).
