Cats are everywhere – even on the big screen.

Cats have long been not only the beloved pets of millions, but also the heroes of numerous animations and TV series. Members of the feline family, like humans, can be cute and kind, but they can also be harmful and sometimes even insidious.

In honor of Flow's Oscar win for Best Animated Feature, we remember the best animated films about cats.

1. The Aristocrats, 1970

The cat Duchess and her kittens Marie, Toulouse and Berlioz are thrown out on the street by a butler named Edgar, who suddenly learns that the furry companions may inherit the fortune of Madame Adelaide, the woman to whom Edgar himself devoted the best years of his life.

Finding themselves on the outskirts of Paris, the cat and her children realize that they will not be able to return home without an assistant. Fortunately, the Duchess soon meets a homeless cat named Thomas, who proves to be the perfect travel companion.

2. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, 2022

Few could have imagined that the sequel to Puss in Boots, subtitled The Last Wish, would become a surprise hit and win the hearts of not only fans of the Shrek movie universe, but also cinephiles.

According to the plot, the main character has spent eight of his nine lives – for the first time, Puss truly risks his own safety to go in search of the mysterious Last Wish that can restore lost lives.

3. The Cat Returns, 2002

The Cat Returns begins with an unexpected encounter between student Haru and a cat that the girl saves from death. It turns out that the rescued cat is none other than the prince of the cat kingdom.

The next night, Haru must meet the father of her new acquaintance face to face in order to receive great gifts from the entire cat nation. But that's not all: the king wants to marry his beloved son to Haru.

Despite the bride-to-be's obvious protests, the cats kidnap the girl. Fortunately, she has made friends in this kingdom and can count on their help.

4. The House of Magic, 2013

Left alone in the middle of an unfamiliar landscape, the cat tries to find at least some temporary shelter and stumbles upon a large old house.

Despite the fact that the local mouse refuses to let the cat in, he accidentally gets inside and meets a mysterious but kind man who immediately gives the baby a name – Thunder.

Not only will the kitten have to find a common language with the other inhabitants, but he will also have to help his new friend defend his right to the house and restore its magic.

5. Cats Don't Dance, 1997

The movie is set in a world where humans and anthropomorphic animals coexist. The main character, Danny the cat, sets out to conquer Hollywood to become a big screen star.

Almost immediately, the talented actor meets Sawyer, who helps him sign his first contract. But here's the problem: it turns out that getting to the top in Hollywood is not so easy.

Danny is given the lines of a secondary character, despite all his outstanding qualities, while the duplicitous Darla gets the leading role. Deciding to discuss the situation with the only familiar soul in Hollywood, Danny turns to Sawyer for help.
