Isekai juggernaut That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime storms back to the big screen with a second film, launching Rimuru Tempest into an all-new adventure that promises fresh thrills for fans.

Rimuru Tempest is heading back to theaters. The isekai hit That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is getting a second film, and yes, it is a fresh story with familiar faces plus a few new ones. A new trailer just dropped, and Japan now has a firm theatrical date.

Release plan (and what just got announced)

The movie is titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Azure Sea. It was first announced in September 2024 right after Season 3 wrapped, and the drip feed of art and teasers has been steady ever since. As of now, there are two trailers out there showing where this story is headed.

Japan gets it first: the film opens nationwide on Friday, February 27, 2026. The official account also unveiled a second key visual and said advance tickets in Japan go on sale Friday, November 21, 2025. After the Japanese run, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are handling a global theatrical rollout. No international date yet; typically, their 'worldwide' distribution does not include most Asian territories, so expect details region by region.

  • Sept 2024: Movie announced after Season 3
  • Nov 18, 2025: New trailer and second key visual revealed
  • Nov 21, 2025: Japan advance ticket sales start
  • Feb 27, 2026: Japan theatrical release
  • TBA: International theatrical dates via Crunchyroll/Sony
  • TBA: Season 4 of the TV anime also announced, no date yet

What Tears of the Azure Sea is actually about

The setup picks up after the opening ceremony for the Demon Kingdom Federation, Tempest. Rimuru and the gang finally take a breather when Elmesia invites them to kick back on a tropical resort island. Vacation does not last long. They run into a mysterious woman named Yura, whose underwater homeland is suddenly in trouble: a water dragon has been unleashed by someone from her own kingdom. Cue Rimuru and friends stepping in to deal with a very wet, very angry new problem.

How you will be able to watch it

It is a theatrical release. Japan first on Feb 27, 2026, with advance tickets there starting Nov 21, 2025. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the film to theaters worldwide after that, with dates still to come (and, as usual, most Asian territories are handled separately). Once the international dates land, it will be the standard buy-tickets-and-go situation.

Meanwhile, on the TV side

Alongside the movie news, the franchise also confirmed a fourth season of the anime. No premiere date yet. If you need a refresher, the series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Small industry-side note: second films in big anime franchises often swing bigger. We will see if Rimuru’s seaside detour tops the first movie, but the setup has potential.
