Tessa Thompson Teases Future MCU Return—But Not in Avengers: Doomsday
Always game for a new challenge, she declares her interest—setting the stage for fresh speculation and intrigue.
If you've been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe for longer than ten minutes, you know the drill: actors say a lot of nothing about their possible return, and answering with an obvious yes or hard no is practically forbidden. The latest to play this Marvel guessing game? Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie—arguably one of the franchise's most flexible (and fun) characters.
Will Valkyrie Be in 'Avengers: Doomsday'? Don't Hold Your Breath—or Rule It Out
So here's the setup: Tessa Thompson was on the press circuit for her Netflix drama 'His & Hers' (where, fun fact, she stars alongside Jon Bernthal—the Punisher himself—so yes, Marvel alums are everywhere). During an interview, the inevitable Marvel question came up: Is Valkyrie riding into battle for 'Avengers: Doomsday'?
For anyone not tracking every rumor, 'Doomsday' is the alleged MCU event movie where basically the entire population of Hollywood is in play, with the not-so-minor twist that Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly back—but as Doctor Doom, not Iron Man. That's right, things are about to get both crowded and weird.
Anyway, Thompson's response was classic Marvel-veteran:
"Oh, [I'm] not able to confirm anything."
That's about as noncommittal as you can get, but she did leave the door wide open. When asked if she'd sign up again, her answer was much less cryptic: "Yeah, definitely." Marvel, take note—she's in if you want her.
Tessa Thompson Actually Loves the MCU Sandbox
Unlike some actors who treat superhero gigs like a necessary evil, Thompson actually talks about the Marvel experience with real affection. She practically gushed over the variety of stories and tones you can explore, from serious drama to flat-out comedy, and the fun of working with so many creative folks—on both sides of the camera.
Her take, paraphrased: The joy of Marvel gigs isn't just the money or the workout routines, it's the chance to mix things up, try new genres, and share the set with some wildly talented people. No wonder she's not shutting the door on a Valkyrie comeback.
Valkyrie: The Marvel Veteran You Forgot Was Everywhere
- Four feature films, including her introduction in 'Thor: Ragnarok' and her Asgardian promotion in 'Love and Thunder'
- Appeared (in animated form) on two MCU TV shows, because why not
- Faced everything from god-killers to Marvel zombies, which is a pretty solid résumé for someone who started as the universe's most hungover valkyrie
Thompson summed it up herself, saying there's just 'so much to do' with these characters, and she simply 'loves the character so much' that she'd basically never say no if Marvel calls.
She's Not Limiting Herself to Marvel, Either
Aside from Asgard and cosmic brawls, she's also not done with the 'Creed' movies. She's right there with Michael B. Jordan in thinking the boxing franchise isn't over yet. Whether audiences are up for more rounds is apparently the deciding factor—but if they're in, so is she.
Her own words for the 'Creed' fans: "We love those films so much. And I think there's still more to say if audiences want to show up. I think we want to be there for them and with them."
So, for those keeping score: If there are hammers to be swung or boxing gloves to lace up, Thompson's game. Now we just have to see if Marvel (or MGM, for 'Creed') actually dials her number next.
