Ted Lasso's Season 4 Hints Sound Like a Soft Reboot

After a pretty final-feeling season 3, Ted Lasso is officially coming back for a fourth round—only this time, it's not just a continuation. It's a full pivot.
According to cast member Nick Mohammad (aka Nate Shelley), season 4 is heading in a totally new direction: Ted's coaching a women's football team now. Yep, the mustache stays, but the pitch (and most of the players) will be brand new.
In an interview on The Chris Moyles Show, Mohammad gave the first solid clue about the direction of season 4:
"I know what has come out in the press. But I think it's fine to say that I did know that before, so I know that it's about Ted coming back and coaching the women's football team. There's obviously going to be a whole host of new characters in it. So, we will see."
So yes, a full women's team is being cast, and a ton of new characters and subplots are in the works. But it's not a total reset—Jason Sudeikis is back as Ted. The status of other regulars like Juno Temple (Keeley), Brett Goldstein (Roy), and even Nick Mohammad himself is still up in the air, but talks are happening.
Also worth noting: Ted's son Henry is getting a bigger role this season—big enough that the role's been recast. So we're probably spending more time in Kansas with Ted's family, adding a more personal angle to the usual team drama.
Thematically, the switch to a women's team also tracks with the growing real-world spotlight on women's sports. And yes, it smells a little like Apple wants a fresh start without losing the Ted Lasso name brand. Think: new team, new tone, same sweater vests.
Filming kicks off in July 2025, so don't expect it to hit Apple TV+ until sometime in 2026. But for a show that was originally supposed to be a three-season arc, it looks like they've found a way to keep the ball rolling—just on a different field.
No word yet if Roy Kent will step up to coach AFC Richmond in Ted's absence, but if there's anyone who deserves a spotlight season of his own, it's the human growl machine himself.
Until then, all three seasons of Ted Lasso are still streaming on Apple TV+. Season 4's going to be different—but if they get it right, it could actually work.
