One character's presence on the show cannot be justified.

Although Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso ended after just three seasons, the feel-good show about a cheerful football coach played by Jason Sudeikis is widely regarded as one of the best comedies to have streamed in recent years, and for good reason: this heartwarming series paid a lot of attention to portraying the complexities of life and the importance of perseverance.

Ted Lasso did, however, have its share of problems, especially in the bloated last season, and a perfect example of that is the fact that the show featured a character who was completely pointless in terms of their role in the story and their contribution to the overall narrative.

We are, of course, talking about Zava, a fictional player based on the iconic Zlatan Ibrahimović. When Zava first joined Richmond, fans expected to spend some time with one of the most interesting and unpredictable characters in the series, but we were all ultimately disappointed. Zava was supposed to propel the story forward, but nothing of the sort happened, and all we were left with was disappointment.

Zava appeared and disappeared so quickly that fans began to question whether he was necessary on the show at all, arguing that no other storyline would have been impacted in any meaningful way if Zava had never been featured in the story in the series. Once again, it would appear that the writers added a lot of unnecessary content to Season 3 without realising that it would only make the whole show feel bloated and boring.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Director Finally Reveals Who Keeley Should End Up With

'I really enjoyed the show, but I really struggle to understand the point of Zava's character. He was introduced, was funny in his phoney profundity, got the team to near the top of the league, and then he left. The only meaningful impact he seemed to have with respect to the overall story was instigating Roy and Jamie's friendship,' a fan said.

But even though Zava didn't do much to advance the story, some fans feel that his presence on the team helped Ted realise something important that later contributed to Richmond's success.

'He illustrated that the Lasso (Richmond) Way is to have a team mentality, instead of just buying stars,' another fan noted.

So Zava did have an impact after all, however insignificant it might have seemed to some viewers.
