Genuine support or just another marketing ploy?

September 1 marked not only the first day of the fall but also the breaking of hearts: on that day (though the world would only find out four days later), Joe Jonas filed for divorce from Sophie Turner. Six years of marriage ended abruptly, and things have only gotten messier since, even though both parties released a joint statement asking people not to believe in rumors and speculation.

Naturally, people immediately took sides: Jonas' fans started blaming Turner for all the problems, and Jonas' comments only fueled the fire of hatred. In response, many came out in support of Turner, including Taylor Swift and Kathy Griffin. Finally, HBO expressed their support for their Queen of the North with a very touching (albeit possibly marketing-oriented) social media post.

According to sources, Jonas, 34, complained that Turner, 27, favored a party lifestyle while he had to devote most of his time to their two children at home. A lot of hype ensued, with Sophie being seen on the streets of New York City on September 19, accompanied by Taylor Swift, who once dated Joe and reportedly dedicated several songs to him, including Forever & Always and Mr. Perfectly Fine.

For both parties, however, the divorce turned into a nightmare: on September 21, Turner filed a lawsuit against Jonas, demanding the return of their children to England because, according to the documents filed with the suit, Joe refused to hand over the children's passports and was fundamentally opposed to their return to England.

HBO's support

Currently, there is no word on the outcome of the court case or whether the children will be able to move to England. But one thing we do know is that this situation must have been incredibly stressful for Sophie Turner, and we can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be for her right now.

Things have been brightened somewhat by the actress' longtime colleagues responsible for the creation of Game of Thrones, HBO. A few days ago, HBO's official Twitter account published a sweet post supporting Turner.

Few, however, believe that they wholeheartedly support Sophie's cause. It seems that all of this may turn out to be just a marketing ploy by Warner Bros.

'Seems like they're trying to make a buck off of her very painful personal situation. Classic Zaslav. I don't like it,' a fan said.

Regardless, a post like this gives Sophie a platform, and publicizing her difficult divorce circumstances could be worth it, no matter how much money the studios try to make from it.
