People hate what the show creators have done to Isabella.

The second season of Freeform's teen crime anthology got off to a good start, introducing fans to a compelling love triangle between Megan, Luke and a foreign exchange student who quickly becomes Megan's friend. When Luke is found dead after spending the night in a remote cabin with two girls, both are suspected of having had something to do with the murder, while each also suspects the other.

With a setup like that, the writers could've easily created a compelling storyline, but the hot mess that fans got in the finale proved that Cruel Summer's creative team was dead set on ruining the entire season from the start.

In a surprise twist, the second season finale revealed that Isabella was not the person she pretended to be at the beginning: the scene where she is leaving the US for Ibiza culminates with her meeting another teenage girl and using a different name to introduce herself. That immediately prompted fans to suspect she may have been the villain all along, and just moments later, it turns out to be the case.

The show's final moments see Megan find a small camera that filmed the spot where Luke's body was found. When she views the footage, she is surprised to discover that it was Isabella who murdered him. After Luke washed ashore following the fight with his brother, Isabella found him, but instead of helping him, she drowned him.

The finale came as a huge shock to many fans as they had really liked Isabella, and many had been defending her innocence online. Thus, when it was revealed she was actually the murderer and the show's villain, many people got really angry at the writers, accusing them of poor plot development and throwing a beloved character to the dogs for no other reason than shock value.

'That undermines their ending even more, since it seemed like they wanted to frame her as a psychopath, but without the character development necessary to make it realistic,' a fan pointed out.

Fans were so let down by the finale that they began analysing it in minute detail to come up with theories for why Isabella was revealed to be the murderer.

'There has to be more to the story – like maybe it was actually Megan who was on the tape drowning Luke and not Isabella. Hear me out, we know everybody already confuses Megan and so maybe, it was actually Megan and because she feels so bad about killing Luke she blocks it out and just thinks it's Isabella,' a fan explained.

In any case, it looks like Cruel Summer's writers really managed to piss off a substantial portion of their own fanbase.
