A24’s horror hit Talk to Me is spawning a spin-off with a tech twist: Meta and XRTV are teaming on an immersive XR series that drags the film’s terror into your living room.

Well, this is not how I expected the Talk to Me universe to expand. Instead of a straight TV series or another quick prequel, A24's 2022 horror hit is spinning off into mixed reality. Yes, the one with the cursed hand is coming for your living room.

What they are making

Meta and XRTV are teaming up on an immersive XR series based on Talk to Me, built exclusively for Meta headsets and filmed entirely in 3D. The pitch is pretty bold: the show uses mixed reality tech to scan your space and stitch it into the story, so the supernatural mess unfolds right where you are sitting.

"Terrifying action sequences directly into viewers' space."

That is the vibe they are going for. If you still have nightmares about that ceramic hand, maybe do not invite it over.

The quick version

  • Format: XR (extended reality) mixed reality series, exclusive to Meta headsets, shot entirely in 3D
  • Episodes: Six installments, each about 30 minutes
  • Premise: A group of young travelers chasing the ultimate party on a European island stumble on the Hand, a supernatural high that turns out to be way deadlier than any drug
  • Tech hook: The series maps your real environment and folds it into the narrative so you are effectively inside the scene
  • Creative team: Directed by Craig William Macneil (Them) across all six episodes; written by Trent Atherton (The Wheel) for the entire run
  • Release timing: No date yet
  • Franchise context: The original film, directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, was released in 2022 and became A24's top-grossing horror title; a traditional sequel, Talk 2 Me, was announced in 2023 with the Philippou brothers returning to direct

So, why this route?

It is an unlikely combo on paper, but the Talk to Me setup actually plays neatly with mixed reality. The movie is already about blurring boundaries and letting something nasty in. Turning that into a headset experience that literally pulls your walls into the scene is both clever and deeply rude (in a good horror way).

Practical note: if you do not own a Meta headset, this one is not for you. For everyone else, prepare to host some very poor decisions in your actual space. Release date is still a question mark.
