Tales of Xillia Remaster’s Physical Xbox Release Pulled a Week Before Launch, Preorders Canceled and Refunded
With delays piling up and tempers flaring, officials apologized, insisting the disruption is beyond their control.
Well, this turned on a dime. Just a week before launch, the disc version of Tales of Xillia Remastered on Xbox in Europe has been pulled.
What changed, and how we found out
North American retailer Video Games Plus (VGP) posted on Bluesky that the EU physical edition for Xbox has been canceled and they are refunding everyone who preordered.
"Regrettably, VGP has been informed that the EU physical edition of Tales of Xillia Remastered XBSX has been canceled. All preorders will be canceled and refunded. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is beyond our control."
That message went up October 21, 2025. The timing is rough: Tales of Xillia Remastered is supposed to launch October 31.
Does that mean other regions still get discs?
Short answer: no. The wording makes it sound like there might be other Xbox disc versions still coming elsewhere, but EU was the only region that was ever actually confirmed for a physical Xbox release. So with Europe pulled, the Xbox disc launch is effectively shelved across the board.
Why the last-minute change?
No one has said yet. The decision to make or cancel a physical edition sits with the publisher (in this case, Bandai Namco), not Xbox. I have asked Bandai Namco for clarification and will update if they respond.
The bigger Xbox backdrop
This probably was not an Xbox-led call, but it lands while Xbox PR is already juggling a lot of bad optics around pricing. Compared to everything else, this cancellation is small potatoes, but here is what has fans grumbling lately:
- Some Xbox console configurations climbing up to $800
- Game Pass jumping from $20 to $30 per month
- Developer kits reportedly increasing by $500
Even a former PlayStation boss recently praised Microsoft’s publishing strategy, but when it came to the Game Pass price hike, his take was pretty blunt: "I don’t understand."
Bottom line: if you were waiting on the Xbox disc, do not hold your breath. Digital is still on track for October 31, but the physical EU edition is out, and that likely means the Xbox disc is out everywhere for now.
