Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Downgrade Sends Brutal Message

Since 2020, Netflix's Sweet Magnolias has been one of the best melodramas in the streaming giant's library, and for good reason. The story of three longtime friends who find solace in each other when their personal lives are falling apart showcased a perfect chemistry between three leads, while providing fans with compelling storylines and interesting character development.

However, it looks like the third time may not be a charm for Netflix, as the most recent season of Sweet Magnolias managed to upset a lot of viewers.

While nothing has changed between the second and third seasons plot-wise, it looks like the creative team behind the show went through some kind of crisis. The quality of writing really dropped compared to the first two stellar seasons, with the characters starting to act childish and uncharacteristic, causing drama at every fitting and unfitting occasion.

Also, some of the new storylines just don't seem to suit the show at all, leaving viewers wondering why certain characters were given a spotlight they never deserved.

'This season definitely feels a lot different, I wondered if they picked up new writers or something too. I thought the whole Kathy storyline was so stupid. Could've so done without her,' a Redditor commented.

Some longtime fans of the show even confessed to skipping some scenes altogether. They say Sweet Magnolias began to feel so shallow that it was simply impossible to watch it as a normal series, so some just continued hate-watching without any hope for improvement.

'It's shockingly bad, to the point where I'm now hate-watching while cooking dinner because it's not entertaining enough to devote my full attention to!' one of the fans complained.

After such a sudden drop in quality, a lot of viewers finally got the reality check about Netflix's melodramas. It's awfully sad to see Sweet Magnolias follow Virgin River's lead and fail to meet fans' expectations with its current season, but it just goes to show that even the best series can flop after some unwise creative decisions and changes in material.

We hope Netflix gives Sweet Magnolias another chance and renews it for a fourth season.
