Some characters get undeserved hate instead of others.

Netflix's Sweet Magnolias, based on Sherryl Woods' novels of the same name, is a wonderful choice of series to escape your daily worries.

That's why when Season 3 premiered this July, viewers were happy to return to the idyllic town of Serenity and delve deeper into the story of three friends — Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen — and the other town residents.

However, it can't be denied that the popular melodrama has a fair number of problems. The latest season in particular disappointed many with subpar writing, mediocre acting, and lack of compelling character dynamics. As a result, lots of viewers admitted to hate-watching the show, but it looks like their criticism may be directed at wrong characters.

Take Bill Townsend, for example.

Yes, Chris Klein does a horrible job imitating a Southern accent, and Bill is an awful person himself, as he had repeatedly cheated on and lied to Maddie. However, as some Sweet Magnolias fans point out, Townsend is not the most hypocritical character of the bunch.

'Noreen: "Don't be sorry, be better. At least for the sake of your kids." Also Noreen: Doesn't let Bill see his kid,' a fan noted ironically.

So, according to some viewers, the fandom's hate should be directed at Noreen, who got redemption this season while Bill was condemned by the Serenity community. Many fans think that's just unfair, and Noreen should have gotten punishment of some sorts.

Despite all his misdeeds, Bill clearly loves his children and chose to stay close to his family. He was willing to help Noreen with Bex and become a good father to the girl. But if Noreen continues aggression towards her ex, it's likely that Rebecca will be the one to suffer, not able to see or communicate with her loving father who lives nearby.

In addition, fans also criticize the storyline of Isaac, who was revealed to be Bill's biological son. Both the writers and Isaac seem to put all the blame on Townsend, although he didn't even know about Isaac's existence and couldn't possibly take care of him as a child.

'[Isaac] went on this whole mission to find his birth parents but was disappointed by who he found out was his father when Bill didn't even KNOW he existed,' a Redditor summed up the complaint.

Fans note that instead of Bill, Isaac should have confronted his mother, Peggy Martin, because she was well aware of the situation but concealed the truth for fear of backlash.

The release date for Sweet Magnolias Season 4 is yet unknown, but we do hope it won't have as many annoying storylines as the last chapter, and that Bill Townsend will be granted at least some sort of redemption.
