The drama is more bitter rather than sweet at this point.

Apparently, TV shows are just like fruit — when they're out for too long, they begin to rot. While it's not a universal rule and many projects retain their great quality, and some even manage to improve over seasons, most series tend to deteriorate the longer they are on the air.

Unfortunately, this also applies to Netflix's Sweet Magnolias. Debuting in 2020, the drama series following three friends from South Carolina in their endeavor to run a spa together proved popular with viewers and was quickly renewed for more seasons. Season 2, which premiered in 2022, cemented the show's success. And just recently, the third installment hit the screens, but it didn't live up to fans' high expectations.

The third season continued to follow Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen in their personal and professional lives in Serenity, but many felt that their story had gotten a bit stale. Perhaps that's why the writers decided to spice things up with a good bucketful of drama, but viewers were not pleased with the result.

Too much drama for the sake of drama — that is the audiences' biggest complaint about Sweet Magnolias Season 3.

Dana Sue's receiving a large inheritance from Frances Wingate, who sadly passed at the end of Season 2 and confessed to be in love with Sullivan's father, has a disturbing soap opera ambience. Bill and Noreen's dynamics are weirdly overdramatized, and their behavior in Season 3 doesn't match how the characters acted in previous installments.

Furthermore, Helen's getting in the middle of their drama feels so unrealistic that many viewers refuse to take it. And Cal is suddenly portrayed as being out of his mind, which certainly doesn't sit well with most fans.

People believe that the excessive drama comes across as far-fetched and spoils the whole series. Sweet Magnolias fans are outspokenly disappointed with Season 3.

'I loved watching this show because it was easy to connect with the characters, sprinkled in some faith and was generally uplifting. This season felt lame. The drama was stupid and didn't make sense,' one Reddit user complained.

Hopefully, things will change for the better and Sweet Magnolias will be able to recover after this disappointing installment. That is, if Netflix decides to renew it for more seasons, which is already questionable, considering how much fans' support for the show waned after Season 3.
