Fans should brace for a shake-up when Sullivan’s Crossing returns for Season 4. Creator Roma Roth confirms a top-billed star is out after the character left town in Season 3.

When Sullivan's Crossing returns for Season 4, a very familiar face will be missing. And not just any face — the Sullivan in Sullivan's Crossing is sitting this one out.

The big change

Creator Roma Roth confirms Scott Patterson will not appear in Season 4. He plays Harry 'Sully' Sullivan, the campground owner whose last name is literally on the sign out front. After Sully hopped a plane to Ireland in the Season 3 finale, the show is pressing forward without him on screen for now.

Where the story picks up

Season 4 starts immediately after the events of the finale — as in, the very next day. Roth says Sully is still part of the show's world, but the camera just will not find him this year.

'While he isn't physically present in this season, the character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative.'

How we got here

Sully's exit was baked into the Season 3 finale. He left for Ireland with his girlfriend, Helen, who is working on adapting her novel for TV. Before he took off, he told his daughter, Maggie, he planned to come back to the campground. Season 4 will reveal he has decided to stay overseas for now, which shifts the focus to the rest of the ensemble holding down the fort without him.

  • Scott Patterson (Harry 'Sully' Sullivan) will not appear in Season 4.
  • Season 4 begins the day after Sully leaves for Ireland.
  • Sully still exists in the show's world; a return later is on the table.
  • He left with Helen, who is adapting her novel for TV.
  • Despite telling Maggie he would return, he is remaining abroad for the moment.

For a series named after its resident patriarch, benching Sully for a whole season is a bold move. But the door is clearly propped open if the story swings back his way.
