Colin Farrell is back in trench-coat mode. Apple TV dated Sugar season 2, so here is the lay of the land without the fluff.
Release date and rollout
Sugar season 2 is eight episodes, premiering Friday, June 19, 2026. After that, it goes one episode a week through Friday, August 7 on Apple TV. Yes, it is a bit of a wait, but at least the schedule is straightforward.
What the new case is about
Farrell returns as John Sugar, the L.A. private eye with a film obsession. This time, he is hired to find the troubled older brother of a rising local boxer. At the same time, Sugar is still chasing the personal mystery that drove season 1: his missing sister. Those threads start small and then widen into a larger citywide conspiracy with ugly motives lurking underneath. The hook is simple; the fallout, not so much.
"Farrell returns for a new case, tracking the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as his search for his beloved missing sister continues. As the investigation expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions, Sugar must reckon with himself to answer the question — how far will he go to do what’s right?"

Quick refresher on Sugar
Season 1 arrived in April 2024 and landed well with critics, sitting at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. The show is pitched as a modern spin on the classic private detective story, and it earned a reputation for a late-in-the-game twist that had people talking. That first season starred Farrell alongside Kirby, Amy Ryan, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, Alex Hernandez, and James Cromwell.
